I couldn’t find a detailed model of this chair. Recently purchased a real one and decided to model it. This is hands down, the most detailed 3d model of this chair available online.

The Aluminium Chair is one of the greatest furniture designs of the twentieth century. Charles and Ray Eames originally designed it in 1958 for the private residence of an art collector in Columbus, Indiana (USA). For the construction of this chair, the designer couple abandoned the principle of the seat shell, instead stretching a panel of fabric or leather between two aluminium side members to create a taut but elastic seat. The chair adapts to the body of the sitter and is exceedingly comfortable, even without elaborate upholstery.

1) This one is modeled after a slightly older model so there is no vitra written on the chrome nob to adjust the angle. I also didn’t include the plastic cap covering the gas spring system, that really looks out of place on the original chair. I started modeling using the DWG reference from Vitra, so sizing should be correct on all accounts.

2) The wheels are rigged (3ds max) so, for added realism, you can point them in a correct direction
