Để học tốt môn học này, đòi hỏi sinh viên phải nắm vững các môn học có liên quan như: xác suất thống kê, đại số boole (phép toán Modulo 2 và đa thức nhị phân). Các môn học có liên quan và có thể tham kháo thêm như kỷ thuật số, hệ điều hành, mạng máy tính.
