Ref ID: 01300-9738858Classification: ParalegalCompensation: DOERobert Half Legal is seeking an experience Bankruptcy Paralegal for a long-term position with the Federal Government's US Attorneys Office in Chicago. The Contractor Paralegal will provide legal support to the Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) and work on bankruptcy issues. The contractor will provide litigation services to include the following: 1. Provide direct legal support to AUSAs working in the Civil Division on a large volume of bankruptcy matters. 2. Examine, prepare and process a variety of legal and financial documents which may be voluminous and complex in format. Review incoming material, independently determine the needs of the case, and assemble and prepare a variety of legal documents, e.g., motions, orders, pleadings, proofs of claim, objections, adversary actions and subpoenas. Obtain needed information from files, agencies, or other sources, and submit completed legal documents to the appropriate AUSA or, in limited cases, directly to the court. In preparation of documents, consider the nature and the status of the case involved. With limited instructions from the AUSA, prepare such legal actions as subpoenas, notices, affidavits, proofs of claim, objections, withdrawals of objections, consent orders, and various other pleadings. 3. Provide assistance to attorneys in hearings or trials through trial preparation and trial support that includes independently compiling trial notebooks, assembling jury instructions, compiling witness and exhibit lists, handling technology and exhibits in the courtroom and other tasks as assigned by the AUSA. 4. Using original and online legal resources, verify citations and statutory references contained in legal documents. Ensure citations are complete and consistent with source material. 5. Compose original letters or electronic communications that do not require legal interpretations, but do require a good working knowledge of legal procedures and specialized terminology, e.g., transmittal of pleadings, requests for extensions of time, notifications of actions taken or developments in cases, communications of the governments position in negotiations, maintenance of good agency relations, and notices to attorneys representing defendants and/or debtors. 6. File and serve government pleadings in bankruptcy court. 7. Establish and maintain a variety of electronic and physical files. Search legal reference files for information needed by AUSAs. Assemble exhibits, affidavits, and other legal documents. Separate, screen, select, assemble, and organize files and records material for disposition or transfer to records depository in accordance with established procedures. 8. Produce a variety of written documents and materials utilizing a wide range of office software applications. For example, assignments may include integrating output from different software types, e.g., tables produced by database applications and charts and graphs produced by electronic spreadsheet applications, into word processing or desk top publishing text. Products include complicated tables, graphs and charts which may be incorporated into legal documents or courtroom presentations.
