Category: Technicians/Technologists Facility: Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital Department: Instrument Reprocessing Shift: Evenings Hours: 3:00 pm - 11:30 pm JOB SUMMARY: The Instrument Technician is responsible for the following essential job functions: Specializes in decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of instrumentation Decontaminates, assembles and sterilizes instruments according to manufacturer guidelines High level disinfects specialty instrumentation or devices according to manufacturer’s guidelines Uses detergents/disinfectant solutions to decontaminate surgical instruments, power equipment, scopes, cameras, light cords, and procedural instruments Assembles and packages instrumentation in sets and/or single instrument peel-packs; ensures sets are counted and complete for terminal sterilization Operates steam autoclave, plasma sterilizer, automated scope reprocessor, ultrasonic, washer-decontaminator, and sanitizing machines Responsible for efficient supply, storage, maintenance and working order of all instruments used in all surgical areas Actively participates in in-service programs for information regarding new or revised procedures, hospital safety and infection control policies and any other information pertinent to daily assignments in the Sterile Processing Department
