Group: MSSClearance Level Needed: SecretShift: DayCategory: Engineering & Support ServicesSummary:Performs as a Crew Member and is able to proficiently perform most aspects of shipboard installation (ie: cable installation, cable termination, opening and closing of MCTs, equipment installation, equipment rack layout and assembly, cosmetic repairs, and assist in structural installation) with little supervision. The following tasks are typical of this occupation:• Loads and unloads trucks, moves supplies and materials to proper location, stacks materials for storage collects refuse and salvageable materials, moves heavy pieces of machinery and equipment, assists in installation of communications hardware, performs minor equipment repairs as directed. • Open cableways, cable ducts, multi-cable transits (MCT) and cable trays. • Removes and installs the following: Power, signal (copper and fiber), and RF cabling, equipment, equipment racks, lockers, and mounting hardware, Connection boxes, switches, and indicator lights, antenna platforms, antenna mounting rings and adapters, antennas and radomes, Foundations, decking, computer decking, and support structure; and Power panels, enclosures, and connection boxes. • Moves material and equipment to and from the installation site. • Assists in fit-up and weld preparation. • Sets up boundaries and clean areas. • Stands fire watches. • Closes cable ways, cable ducts, MCTs, standpipes, and cable trays. • Paints new and disturbed cabling, lagging, foundations, mounting brackets and hardware, and structure.• Provides installation assistance during SOVT.• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Perception of color and depth required. Able to work in confined spaces and at heights. • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Serves as technical assistant to other Technicians. • Technician should be qualified and able to build copper connectors under NAVSEA requirements. Will serve as technicians' of installations. • Responsibilities may include planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
