More than 1,100 faculty members instruct roughly 5,200 undergraduate and 2,600 graduate students. Nearly 5,000 staff support the teaching and learning mission of the University. The University is seeking an Infrastructure Specialist to join its Enterprise Infrastructure Services department within the Office of Information Technology (OIT). OIT, with its diverse staff of more than 275 employees, is responsible for the central information technologies, resources, and infrastructure that support the University's research, teaching, and administrative missions. The departments of Research Computing, Academic Technology Services, Administrative Information Services, Support Services, Enterprise Infrastructure Services, as well as the offices of Project and Technology Consulting and Information Security are housed within OIT. In addition, OIT has centralized operations and planning, finance, contract and vendor management, and organizational effectiveness services.The Infrastructure Specialist reports to the Manager of Data Center Facilities and is responsible for infrastructure installation and related operational duties that support research and enterprise computing services. Working in the University's main data center locations, the specialist ensures that the mechanical and electrical infrastructures operates at proper levels and notifies the appropriate maintenance personnel as needed. The specialist installs servers, storage and data communication equipment, and data communication cabling. The specialist also maintains an on-line inventory of all data center equipment. The data center specialist may work on special assignments related to high profile projects and priorities for the University's data centers. The position requires working closely with colleagues in OIT and IT staff in University departments. The specialist may also directly assist University faculty, post-docs, graduate students, and vendors. The individual in the position works on teams and independently, requiring only general supervision and guidance. The specialist provides services as needed, and can include work on the weekend or outside of normal hours of operation. • Works under direct supervision or supervised teams to provide installation and related operational duties supporting research and enterprise computing services. This includes hardware-related tasks such as powering equipment on and off, replacing failing disks or memory, and mounting and dismounting removable media, and software-related tasks that require physical proximity to the servers. • Assist University faculty, post-docs, graduate students, vendors and staff in their authorized use of data center facilities services.• Maintain an on-line inventory of all data center equipment.• Stay current with information about data center operations best practices.• When provided access to personal, proprietary and/or otherwise confidential data, maintain such data in the strictest confidence and follow procedures to ensure the privacy, security and proper use of data.
