Gerdau is currently seeking a Utility Person for its Charlottesville, VA facility. Responsibilities: Working outside to plan, lay out, and perform the sequence of loading, unloading, weighing, and positioning to furnish internal and external customers with scrap metal.  Working with customers who are bringing in scrap metal. Shift full and empty cars, operate locomotive, activate switches, couple and uncouple cars, and set brakes or wheel blocks as requested.  Operate the loader and/or the crane to assist in loading and unloading oversize scrap or crushed cars from trucks and railcars. Inspect and verify scrap for grade and quality. Identify deductions and downgrades.  Record and report all discrepancies via written reports, the Mayer Scrap System and photographs. Monitor scrap supply in yard; coordinate activities to ensure melt shop requirements are met. Perform daily preventative maintenance checks on machinery; this includes greasing and checking oil and fluids.
