Purpose of Position Develops plans, designs, resource requirements and cost estimates for construction, maintenance projects and support involving enterprise high availability data center networks and multi-platform domestic and international data network connectivity. These efforts support large, customer-facing electric and gas utility and realty services, including Internet and mail hosting services and all corporate IT services at data centers, electric and gas transmission distribution facilities and electric generation facilities. Plans and coordinates cross-functional or cross-company work, change management and resource availability. Monitors systems operations and adjusts operational plans accordingly. Acts as a lead and/or technical resource to network engineer 1 and 2. Provides Support to the Following Positions IT management and staff Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions) Designs and develops complex data network plans for enterprise network upgrades and expansions. Designs and implements complex data systems, network configurations and network architecture, including hardware and software technology, site locations, business continuity, disaster recovery, and integration of technologies. Provides network engineering expert resources in the disciplines of core routing, core switching, network security, network diagnostics and application load balancing. Assesses and resolves the most complex data network problems and incidents. Reviews analyses and technical feasibility to develop data network deployment strategies. Assesses and reviews data network growth forecasts to ensure that business needs are translated into network capacity requirements. Leads and supports efforts to resolve data network problems and incidents through root cause analysis and study of potential network deficits. Performs additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. Communications/Contacts Internal - Information technology staff and application end users External - Contractors, vendors, utilities and regulatory agencies Performance Expectations (Key Success Factors) Demonstrates technical knowledge and a growing knowledge of the company's information systems and infrastructure design. Must possess advanced enterprise networking fundamentals, including complex switching and routing knowledge, high availability system designs skills, advanced network security design skills, Internet services and protocols knowledge, advanced network diagnostics capabilities. Provides accurate input into the budget process and contribute to meeting the actual targets. Complies with industry and corporate technology standards - interprets industry regulatory standards, develops technical policies and procedures, and administers systems with zero tolerance for error. Emphasis on identification and fulfillment of customer requirements. Participates on teams that result in contribution to achievement of team goals and objectives. Performs responsibilities as directed within determined time frames and with a high degree of accuracy. Establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department and the company. Maintains the professional competence, knowledge and skills necessary for the satisfactory completion of responsibilities; enhances job knowledge and abilities by taking personal responsibility for professional development and training. Maintains sensitive and confidential company information. Attends work on a regular basis and supports the company's employee policies and procedures, including workplace safety rules. Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company. Is available to be on-call 24/7 to provide on-site or remote support at any time when called upon. Liaise and coordinates with multi-platform business and technical colleagues on various project implementations.
