The Plant Manager role is to ensure the efficient and effective operation of all plant / production functions.  The role has approx. 8 – 10 direct reports.  Reports into the General Manager.   The Plant Manager will be responsible for directing and managing all phases of plant operations including: production, quality control, maintenance, and shipping/receiving.  Responsibilities also include training/coaching personnel, facility/physical plant up-keep and leading process improvement and LEAN initiatives.    Key objective will be to improve productivity, efficiency and quality through strong team leadership and the implementation of structured processes. Provide direction, development and leadership to production personnel for the successful day-to-day operation of the facility andto achieve long-term plant objectives Manage the order flow, coordinating with all aspects of production and operations, to ensure orders are shipped on-time Implement and maintain KanBan Inventory systems for keeping appropriate levels of raw material and components inventory in stock. Coordinate Purchasing activities as required for special components required for specific customer orders. Calculate technical specs / manufacturing requirements required for the issuance of work orders Distribute work to production personnel based on workload and skillsets of the team Work closely with manufacturing personnel to ensure quality is a top priority and develop processes to identify and prevent manufacturing defects. Drive a Process Improvement focus across the team to encourage and promote operating in a continuous improvement environment Identify areas of process waste and bottlenecks in the production process to improve efficiencies and enhance productivity Establish processes to monitor defects and scrap to determine trends and areas of improvement Develop formal testing and Quality Assurance standards and procedures Identify Health & Safety deficiencies and work with the team to implement cost-effective improvements to ensure that the Company can provide a safe workplace for its employees Establish and monitor overall plant performance metrics to achieve efficiency and quality targets Oversee maintenance of plant facilities and equipment Promote shop floor organization and plant cleanliness among plant personnel, and oversee implementation of 5S concepts throughout the plant Develop a plan to ensure all key production functions have a satisfactory cross-training / back-up plan in place Document work instructions and Standard Operating Procedures to drive consistency and quality in manufacturing processes.
